Now that I’m teaching in-person yoga classes again, I’ve been spending more time thinking about some of the challenges that musicians and other populations may have when beginning a yoga practice. In a typical vinyasa class, for example, there is a lot of time spent with weight in the hands and moving through a high plank, low plank, upward facing dog, to downward facing dog. It can be challenging to know what the appropriate options are, and how to customize a class in real-time as it’s happening to meet your needs, especially if you are new.
So I made a video breaking down all of this information, and a few different suggested props and a book (‘Yoga for Everyone’ by Dianne Bondy). There’s no need to buy anything new, you can start with items you already have at home: a pillow or a rolled up towel instead of a bolster, and a textbook instead of a yoga block. Watch the video below and let me know if you have any questions! Is there anything I didn’t cover that you would like to learn in a future post?
